CLAY COUNTY, WV (WOWK) - It's time to ride the rails in Clay County! Rail Explorers, the nation's leading railbike operator, is opening its newest location, right here in the Mountain State.
Leaving from the spot where the Elk River meets Buffalo Creek, this tour offers a 12-mile round trip along Buffalo Creek and the Gauley Railroad. The Clay County location is expected to hire between 15 and 20 people including seasonal guides to keep tours running all year long.
"So we did a search across the country looking for the best company that could come in and bring these real bikes, and we found them! So they've got operations all over the U.S.; they do this. It's a really cool experience," said West Virginia Tourism Secretary Chelsea Ruby.
The tours are open Thursday through Mondays to the public and even to pets! Riders have the choice between riding a two-person or four-person railbike.
